The earliest book that mentions Bell's telephone that I have is a volume of 'The Cyclopedia of Self Instruction' of 1880 which has a description of Bell's telephones in the section on 'Natural Philosophy'. See attached for the page. Plus some pictures of one of the said 'telephones' which I acquired about thirty years ago. I had waited outside the back door of the Science Museum for many years hoping they'd throw something out and one day I was lucky! Believe that if you want but I did get it from the Science Museum. It was a spare they didn't want and had had since they acquired it in 1911 and never done anything with. I want the lucky recipient! Telephone is made from gutta percha. The patent date is that of AG Bell's UK patent for the telephone which he had invented earlier that year - he had patented in the US but not the UK! Anyone got anything older? |
