I used a small amount of UHU just in the centre of the dial, as it is hidden behind the knob.
Self-adhesive sheets need to sit on top of the dial, and the text is exposed and will wear. Putting the printed clear pastic under the dial protects it.

Thanks Jeremy. I was thinking of printing a flipped image and sticking the self adhesive transparency to the underside of the skirt. When refitting the knobs I always insert a piece of thin card between the skirt and the faceplate while tightening the screws. This avoids any issues with rubbing which often causes the problem in the first place.
