Hi Micheal.
This may be of some help. Have a look at this link. The R1155 drive is described at the end of the article. http://vintageradio.me.uk/radconnav/1962/nov62.htm Rich.

Re: R1155 Type 13 slow motion drive
Thank you Richard this has helped me alot.
The R1155A I have just acquired has obviously had a bodge job done on the tuning drive , there was no cork washer. The metal disc had some hard cloth type material glued to its uper surface.I have cleaned all of this off and i had made a cork washer myself from an "old mug coaster". I am not sure how thick this washer needs to be , it is obviously vital for correct operation. Does anybody have a drive washer thickness measurement? Mike |

Re: R1155 Type 13 slow motion drive
Mike, I have a R1155A with the tappered roller type slowmotion. I just took it apart and measured the thickness of the cork washer, which was .03 inches.

Hi John,
Many thanks for taking the trouble to measure the washer, I will now carry on to see if I can get this to work. I hope all is well with you in the bay area. Regards Mike |

Re: R1155 Type 13 slow motion drive
Hi Mike, My washer is somewhat worn and flattened. I would imagine a washer of up to twice this thickness would work. If no one comes up with a spare washer or cork sheet, you could probably use cardboard.

Re: R1155 Type 13 slow motion drive
Hi John,
Thanks again for your help I have got the slow motion to work now , I have used a .05 inch thickness. It feels a little gritty in it's action. Is your drive very smooth, if so I may still have the washer a little too thick. Thanks again enjoy your weekend Mike |

Re: R1155 Type 13 slow motion drive
The friction type drive was never brilliant, and recieved a lot of complaints from Aircrew, hence the change to the later geared type.
If it works half-way decently, then it may well be as good as the original, so don't worry too much! Jim. |
