Default Mystery Object

This popped up on another forum I frequent, it looks vaguely military to me. I wonder if anyone recognises the unit? Various reasonable suggestions were made, but nothing definitive, more descriptive and possibilities.

Looks like an oscilloscope to me. Where was the picture taken? That context might help work it out

(looks like an Urbex photo?)

I would venture to suggest the picture was taken on the Isle of Wight...looks remarkably like one I took here https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?p=233952 back in 2009 see picture 4 in which case its junk from the defunct radio museum.

I reckon you're spot on with that- it's just a more recent photo from the same old site. Presumably some of the stuff has been removed or at least moved about since then. It's not Urbex in this case, though it might have been..... that was mentioned in connection with the site on the other forum.

Maybe I should try on the Test equipment thread for a positive ID, though none was forthcoming in 2009 here.

I'm guessing an American naval radar display - looks about the right size for a 5-7inch tube

Certainly not a TCS - I have them on the bench at present - a better piccy would certainly help!

If it is a photo taken at the site of a defunct museum, then it qualifies as 'urbex' (ie Urban Exploration - exploring and documenting derelict locations).

I expect the radar screen idea might be the closest.

The photo wasn't particularly "urbex"- the site and the location where the photo was taken are in a publicly accessible park- the building (some sort of historic bunker) simply has that grille or gate across its entrance at the bottom of a short flight of steps leading up to a road.

It wouldn't surprise me if some more determined "urbex" has occurred on the rest of the site, though.....

Could well be an old radar display unit. I bought a couple of these years ago and they are packed with goodies/useful HV components, including a super little 5kV transformer... which ended up in a wasp/mosquito killer. Grab it!
