Green Ekco at auction?
Hi all,
Spotted this at a London auction! http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/au...0/lot-10740253 The estimate seems very low? Is it a reproduction Looks too tidy to be real? Some of the London members need to take a peek in person? Enjoy, Paul. |

Re: Green Ekco at auction?
Hi, it does indeed say Bakelite? I know Gerry made round Ekcos in MDF but I am not sure if he made this model. Someone here will know. Whoever made it made a great job, assuming it is a reproduction.

Re: Green Ekco at auction?
Someone needs to go and peek inside the back; It may well say "steepletone", on the back cover

It seems to be another one of the sets discussed in this thread >
http://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/s...g+green&page=2 Looks like Bonhams may have it very wrong ! Andy |

Re: Green Ekco at auction?
So In what finishes did they come with originally, would they have done a red example?

Surely the silvered knobs give it away for a start!

Re: Green Ekco at auction?
Hi,
I hate to say, I don't think this is a 'real' one, as in, not original Ekco. First thing I noticed was the tuning dial didn't look quite right, if you look closely at the corners at each end of the dial, their quite rounded, whereas on an original their very sharply defined and (almost) square. Also the feet look slightly odd. I think there may have been a red version, I'm sure I've seen a white one in a book somewhere! regards, Lloyd |

Re: Green Ekco at auction?
Hi All,
I agree with Lloyd, this has got to be a fake/reproduction as it does not look anything the original (that sold for over £15000) that Andy (Setsappeal) has posted the link to. I'm not sure that I even like it too! Rob |

Zoom in. 'Long Waves' and 'Medium Waves'? Sounds like a Taiwanese instruction book.
This one made £19,600 in 1993. http://www.independent.co.uk/money/h...r-1508214.html Last edited by Boom; 6th Mar 2011 at 1:40 pm. |

Re: Green Ekco at auction?
It is a repro machine, possibly a resin one or a Gerry wood one. Its well worth a bid, its cheaper than a genuine one!

Re: Green Ekco at auction?
I'm sure anyone that considering shelling out serious money for it would know the difference. Gerry Wells was building some when I visited some years ago, on the whole they looked very authentic and probably cost more to build than the originals, so they must have some value, just as a reproduction car has - will be interesting to see the outcome.

Re: Green Ekco at auction?
Indeed, the allposters picture linked above also has the waves in the plural.

Re: Green Ekco at auction?
I just got a few photos back from the auction house and they are inconclusive. The back cover seems to be a repro'. The set really needs looking at close up. Shame I am too far away.

"Wells coated radio, Dulwich"
That's conclusive. It's one of Gerry's MDF models. |
