Parts
hi
Ive just come back from Gt. Yarmouth and found a really good old shop for radio parts. Hi voltage caps the lot. He has tonnes of it. Well worth calling him. Bargain Buy 01493 855053 I got a 6V6 and a 6F6 for 50P. Old knobs 20p. He has boxes of the stuff. I had a good chat and he told me no one builds stuff any more... good old days. I came a way with a bag full .. Pete G4MRU |

Hello Pete
Welcome to the forum and thanks for that info, I'll have to give him a ring! By the way, did you use to tutor classes for the RAE and the morse tests at Stocksbridge College near Sheffield by any chance? If so you was my examiner when I passed my 12 wpm morse back in 1992. |

Re: Parts
Hello Pete
I thought it was you. Pleased to have renewed your acquaintence again after 15 years or so! Yes I'm still at the old Ham Radio lark, but its took something of a backseat to collecting and restoring Vintage Radio's in recent years. I'm always looking for supplies of suitable capacitors, so if this chap you speak of has got so much stuff he doesn't know what to do with it, I will have to ring him and see what he's got in that line. Best wishes |

Re: Parts
Hi all.
The shop is quite run down but do not think he is shutting it. Its sort of a hobby to him now. A real shack sort of shop. I will be going to see him in the next month and was thinking of trying for a deal. He tells me that he sells very little in the way of radio parts now, so you never know! I can only ask. He did say he would do post though. I'll ask. Yes the PARASET. Mine is running very well. I got a nice 6V6 and a 6F6 for it from that shop. I got the 6L6 form the PARAEST club. As for the xls. I get them from radio rallie's . I'm quite lucky in that I had some usefull xls in my shack box. But I've also looked in floor boxes in junk shops. That's a point, he had some colour burst xls they are usefull I resolder them inside. My PARASET runs some 6 watts. With the 6L6 I get 8 watts. The extra power is not really all that useful with CW. So not worth the bother.. Pete G4MRU |

Re: Parts
The pictures on that site are fascinating.
The stuff he has for sale doesn't seem to have changed at all in 37 years (even the battery display rack is identical), though poor Vernon looks a somewhat more aged (as you might expect). N. |

Re: Parts
Bill Burcher (Sound Systems of Suffolk)who advertises in Radio Bygones and PW is supposed to be finally finally finally retiring on Dec31 but, speaking to him on the phone yesterday he says he still has lots of valves left (which he sells at rock bottom prices) and will probably sell them off in bulk job lots in the new year. So if you're interested ring him now at 01473 272218. Generally speaking his valves are NOS or tested used. I took the opportunity to order a couple of 25L6 and 43s (£2.25 and £4.00)and 6SH7s(£1.40). He also has masses of components and other stuff ,i.e.packets of 2,4 or 6BA nuts, bolts and washers for £1, trimmer capacitors from15p, etc.,etc.

Re: Parts
The least we could do is make guys like Vernon Morris aware that there are lots of enthusiasts like us around. How about inviting him to load up a van with vintage-type components, and attend either the NVCF or one of the more local BVWS events or ham radio rallies? He would probably sell more in one day than he does in a normal week!
