Odd looking Philips mains connector
A friend of mine recently found a Philips VCR (video) recorder, which has the mains connector shown below. I recognize it from other Philips equipment; was it something unique to Philips or just an unusual standard? Anyone know if it's possible to obtain one these days, or is a question of rummaging through boxes of mixed cables at the nearest antique radio flea market?

Re: Odd looking Philips mains connector
As far as I know it was a Philips special, I've seen it on cassette recorders and the N1500 VCR. I have an old catalogue (Maplin) which listed various 'cassette mains leads' and simply called that one 'Philips'.
So yes, alas, you have to dig through boxes of cables in the hope you find one. |

Re: Odd looking Philips mains connector
Perhaps looking for a mains lead to suit the model number of the equipment might help.
By way of elimination, this link shows all the IEC standardised types https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_60320 This slight adjustment might make the type you want clearer. PMM |

Re: Odd looking Philips mains connector
The model number won't help. I suppose the official name is a Philips recorder mains lead. In Dutch collector circles, the nickname for this lead/connector is MORF. It's a somewhat standard connector with one of the pins rotated 90 degrees.

Re: Odd looking Philips mains connector
It was definitely on the 1500 VCR but I recall that it was on many Philips 405/625 line TV’s as well.
Think they were usually a beige colour. |

Re: Odd looking Philips mains connector
A search on the net brought up this on eBay - "Very rare PHILIPS 'MORF' power cable / type BB6781" but that seems to have two pins in the same (parallel) planes.
Could there be more than one variant? PMM |

Re: Odd looking Philips mains connector
Yeah, that's a "normal" one, not a MORF. And way too expensive!

Re: Odd looking Philips mains connector
I think the third photo attachment of Post 1 of this linked Thread shows the required cable.

Re: Odd looking Philips mains connector
It certainly looks more suitable for the socket in this thread than for that shown in its preceding image!
