BBC Colour Promotion 1969/70
As we all know November 1969 saw BBC-1 and ITV finally bloom into (mostly) full colour. Here are some examples of the printed promotional material distributed by the BBC to television dealers at the time to help the sales of colour sets.
I wonder if anyone in the trade at the time remembers these? Steve |

Sorry to say I don’t remember them, mind there is so much I have forgotten so we may have had them in the shop. We sold CTV from the first transmission in 1967.

Dash it! I was expecting to have my memory jogged and gleefully recognise these things, as I was just entering the TV trade at this time. Sadly, although I spent some time 'front of house' in the shop I don't recall any of them.

Re: BBC Colour Promotion 1969/70
My memories of the first years of "full" colour on ITV was the industrial dispute/strike/work to rule where everything on ITV was back to B&W only for several months - I'm guessing this would have been ~1970.
One episode of "Land of the Giants" in colour then B&W. As an "inquisitive" teenager (just) - I'd spend hours fiddling with the fine tuning and other knobs trying to get the colour back. I think the dispute affected all ITV regions not just Yorkshire Television but could be wrong there.

LWT were quite badly effected by the colour strike, with the early episodes of Budgie and Upstairs Downstairs being made in black and white, though the pilot of Upstairs Downstairs was later remade in colour.

Re: What's on TPTV
TPTV have been showing Upstairs, Downstairs from the start, including the episodes that were made in black & white due to a technicians strike, and haven't been repeated much if at all since the original run.
