Yes I did Paul but why an auctioneer can't tell bakelite from MDF is beyond me

I saw some of these being made so must have been about 10 years ago. Gerrys skill in reproducing chassis and cases are amazing. I think part of the reason he made them was to disprove that only bakelite could be used to make the very pleasing shapes of the round EKCO. His Repwood Snow Whites also turn up from time to time but they also always had his name on them.

As a "Wells Coated" replica, I presume the auction estimate would be in the right ball-park.

Be interseting what it will fetch, certainly not the 16.5K from an original a good few years ago.

Not sure wether Gerry sold these in any colour for around £650?

I think they varied between £250 and £500; the last lot we built sold at £250 with m/lw and fm heads and some were garden party raffles. They were available in very many colours, and some marblelised ,with some specials in chrome, pink etc. There were 3 batches from Gerry in the end, roughly 70+ in total , the last ones were only sold off 3 or 4 years back before Gerry became seriously ill, and an unknown number of resin ones from the other source ( cant remember the guys name), its featured in the 25year book of the bvws though.

Hi All,

A friend of mine who was an avid collector of vintage broadcast sets
had always wanted a green Ekco, but never managed to obtain one.
He died some years ago, - on his way to a vintage radio rally.
A number of us, who used to meet with him at a radio shop in
Birmingham on Saturdays, ordered a wreath for his funeral . It was
specially made to a picture of a round green Ekco.

Kind regards Dave

I didn't know round Ekco's used AF117's..Were they B7 based I wonder? The back looks 'age washed'. I HATE round Ekco's so this is great fun for me. John.
PS. Mind you, that is a beautiful reproduction from Gerry.

The three green bakelite sets that I know of were sold from £3000 to £5000.

I don't think that was referring to this set.

No, it says 'last month' this one was sold (or otherwise) this month.

Now that we know the price the Ekco went for, we're stopping bidding on this thread.
