Panasonic FS200 expert needed
Dear all,
I have a Panasonic FS200 which is highly advised for transferring VHS to digital because of its TBC. It is in generally good working condition, however, the blues seem very blue and the red's are very red (almost washing out any other colour). I guess due to ageing capacitors, it needs a refresh but could someone kindly point me in the right direction of where to troubleshoot the right part of the circuit for the capacitor renewal? Thank you |

As far as I remember there's a subpanel off the main board that's full of SMD electrolytics, all of which will want replacing. That's not an easy or pleasant task, even if you're experienced in dealing with replacing SMD capacitors.

Re: Panasonic FS200 expert needed
Hello. This model and the AG-1970 suffer from leaky SMD caps in the luminance/chroma module (VEP03895). Symptoms may vary from good VHS playback but bad S-VHS playback to no playback at all or very bad picture. I have an FS200 and when it worked, VHS playback was perfect but on S-VHS tapes it looked horrible. Notice how the bottom-left corner of the comb filter can is corroded. This is more than likely caused from leaked electrolytic.

I concur with Glyn and Fivos, these capacitors are often found on thick film circuits so extra care must be taken when replacing.
