Goblin 855 Teasmade-Auto not functioning
Hello,
First post here although I have read these forums for a while now trying to solve various problems with my Teas made. I had a problem with the goblin 855, the clock wasn't working. I took apart the clock and gave it a bit of lubrication on the worm gear on the motor and all seems to be working again. However the auto function is not working. So I can only make tea by using the "Tea now" function. At first I thought this was because I had put the clock hands back on incorrectly and they weren't "aligned" with where the alarm point actually was. I am not so sure though and now do not know how to proceed to make the auto function work again. If anyone could shine any light on this problem it would be much appreciated. |

Re: Goblin 855 Teasmade-Auto not functioning
Hi Mike,
Thank you for your reply. -Well I was given it for free by an elderly friend. I was told the clock had stopped working. So I assumed up until that point it was all completely functioning. -There is a loud click when I move the alarm dial around. -I am not sure if I have put the hands back on correctly. Yesterday I took off the front screen and I found the point where there is the audible click/clunk and then I aligned all the hands to the 12 O'clock point. Thanks again. |

Re: Goblin 855 Teasmade-Auto not functioning
Hi Nick,
That proves that you replaced the hands OK. Also the Tea Now boils the kettle and then switches it off as it should. There seems to be that there might be a problem with the switch in the clock or (unlikely) the manual switch operated with the knob. Are you OK with a multimeter?

Hi Mike,
I have a multimeter and can use it to a basic level, although I would definitely appreciate some guidance ( my A-level in electronics many years back seems to have packed its bags and left) |

Re: Goblin 855 Teasmade-Auto not functioning
Hi Nick,
You'll only need a meter on ohms range with the mains disconnected - I'll dig out a picture of the connections but this might be a couple of days to dig out the spare Teasmade. We just need to see if the switch in the clock part is operating.

Re: Goblin 855 Teasmade-Auto not functioning
Hi Nick,
I only seem to have the smaller 864 version, but the motor is the same so we'll see what we can do. At first unplug the mains. If you can remove back cover plate, with the unit the right way up, turn the alarm knob until you hear the loud click - at that point it should have switched on. With the straight part of the motor unit on your left the two connectors bottom left is where the switch is. Your meter should read continuity on ohms. If not, there's something wrong with the switch inside the motor. Let us know what happens and we'll investigate further.

Think he must have either sorted it or given up - Mods, you might as well close it.

Hi Mike,
Sorry for the lack of replies on this. Life got in the way of hobby fixing. But I plan to carry on trying to sort this. Once again thank you for the assistance. Nick |
