I heard on radio (ironically) than analogue radio transmission is to end in 2015. The government are keen to sell lots more licences plus of course they benefit from the VAT they collect from sales of new radios regardless of where they are made. Consider how many portable trannies, clock radios, radiograms, Hi-Fis, tuners, car radios etc will end up being thrown away. Then of course they get repeat sales by changing the compression system used thereby rendering existing 'new' sets unusable. This has already happened with TV set-top boxes.
