Default Sanyo VTC 5000 Betamax help needed please

Hi all
Just got a Sanyo Betamax off eBay sold as untested working (yes I know what you are going to say) anyway it has arrived a bit grubby and screws missing from the case but I put a tape in it and it played picture seemed good but when I ejected it the tape was hanging out of the cassette.
So on further testing the rewind and forward is not working although it did with picture search when I played the tape and and press stop the tape will not go back into the cassette.
I would love to get this going so I can start playing my colllection of tapes so any help would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks

Yes, the 5000, there was an official mod from Sanyo, from memory it gave the lacing motor a little more torque whilst unlacing. There was a very low value resistor in the emitter of the motor drive output IC I think, good machines.

Hi there.
I would go for the obvious first, belts and idler.
The idler assembly "VIA415" is available from WES Components. Just checked, but the belt kit "VBK58" is no longer available. They do say, however to call for an E.T.A. Perhaps they can still source them.

Hi. A bad idler tyre and belts is the most common issue with these Sanyos. After replacing them, insufficient reel motor torque might also be an issue. In that case, the syscon board mod will take care of that.

Timtape.
Right you are. Indeed, it is VIA514. Sorry about the typo. Apparently still in stock,
AU$ 27.50 each. Try find a belt kit somewhere. That's a cheaper way to get an idler tyre.

Hi
Thanks for the replays I have also seen somewhere people saying either to turn the idler rubber inside out or to replace the rubber with a tap rubber seal any ideas on this.

I have successfully done this in the past, also you can use rubber renew, or a product designed for printer rollers (the product name escapes me).

Hi all
Just had a look at it today I don't know how the idler is surpose to work but what I have found is if I press rewind or forward while not playing a tape the top idler cog is stopping short and not engaging with the tape cog but if I push the bottom of the idler with the rubber seal across first and then press forward or move it the other way rewind then it works until I press stop.
Many Thanks
