Absolute Radio 40’s.
Absolute Radio 40’s is now on air. For the next 24 hours, from midnight, it’s broadcasting on Absolute's AM frequencies 1215 network. and on line, music news and adverts from 1945 to celebrate VE Day 75. They are putting it out as they think Absolute Radio would sound in the 1940’s. So far it’s been really good and a very interesting enjoyable listen. I don’t have a working radio from the 1940’s the nearest I can get is to use my 1966 Bush TR130.

Re: Absolute Radio 40’s.
Thanks for the heads-up.
We're always moaning about the demise of MW and the lack of original 'source material' for our old sets. During the 08:00 News, the station ID was given as 247 metres Enjoy it while it lasts. It's lost in the mush here but can be picked out with my Tecsun AN200 loop on my late 40s Defiant. Keep safe! SR |

Webpage is here https://planetradio.co.uk/absolute-r...ute-radio-40s/ and online streaming here https://planetradio.co.uk/absolute-radio-00s/player/
Listening now on MW, on a Grundig Party Boy 500 (1970's transistor), sounding good in Cardiff city centre (surprisingly so with the amount of modern tech in my flat and surrounding flats). My valve sets haven't been run for a few years so I wouldn't trust them to run all day without further checks. |

Listening on 1233kHz, 1215kHz not too good here. Using a coms receiver at present will try the Ekco AD65 later.

Re: Absolute Radio 40’s.
Listening in the garden on a radio that would have been used to listen to the 10th anniversary, I know but I don’t have a 40s battery set.
Also had the “utility radio” playing Churchill’s speech this morning. I loaded the video onto the UKVRR Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/59466401554/ John |

Re: Absolute Radio 40’s.
Thanks for posting this, I had no idea they were going to do this! Got the Ekco AC86 out in the garden with it on I haven’t powered up this radio for ages! Pleased to say it’s running beautifully, just got to try and keep the sun off it.

Re: Absolute Radio 40’s.
Really enjoying the celebration, I set up my radio playing absolute radio with a few props in my front drive, so nice hearing the right kind of music coming out of 1930's a valve radio.

I had a listen on the A22, just as it warmed up and was tuned in the Red Arrows flew over the house. Marvellous!

Re: Absolute Radio 40’s.
I must say these radios do sound great with period music playing, it’s the best I’ve ever heard this old Ekco, normally it ends up playing heavy metal! It really doesn’t suit it!
Your little set up looks great Clive! Regards Lloyd |

Re: Absolute Radio 40’s.
I probably wouldn't have known about this if I hadn't seen it at the top of the front page when I first 'clicked' on an hour or two ago.
Listening to it now on the Dynatron - not quite period, as made in 1947. |

Re: Absolute Radio 40’s.
I made a short clip here on my Eddystone 358X. Fair play to Absolute radio. Shows that they're is still a bit of life left in medium wave. Thinking today of my late Grandfather and Great Uncle.

Re: Absolute Radio 40’s.
Don't worry if you don't hear it all, it seems to be on about a 4 hour loop currently (with 4 presenters doing an hour each). This may change later in the day though.

Re: Absolute Radio 40’s.
I have been making SWMBO a cold frame in the garden with my restored RAS set playing Absolute Radio in the background. Sounds great.
