Re: Any ideas on this plug socket?
Ha ha ha that was funny. But at least it can bring back some good memories at times.

Re: Any ideas on this plug socket?
These connectors were widely used for all types of relatively high powered or hot appliances.
Kettles and clothes irons have already been suggested, I have seen these also on a table top kiln, and on infra-red heaters for livestock rearing. One common livestock heater used three, four, or five, infra red lamps mounted on a metal box section, with one of these connectors at one end. Often overloaded to a full 13 amps or 15 amps rather than the 10 amp rating. Usually by people fitting a fast boiling 3KW element to a kettle intended for a lower wattage element. |

Re: Any ideas on this plug socket?
It looks very similar pin wise to the connector on my parents Russel Hobs teamaker except that has a right angle cable entry.
Their teamaker dates from circa 1959 and though not used for all of that time it is currently in daily use. |

Re: Any ideas on this plug socket?
I certainly remember something like that on an old iron my mother still had as a spare for when the newer one failed

Re: Any ideas on this plug socket?
My Marconiphone 382 wireless, dating from 1936, also uses this connector for the mains input. When I got it the connector was missing and the replacement came from an old iron. Interesting to reflect on how standardisation of connector types has been around for so long.

Re: Any ideas on this plug socket?
My instinct ,when I saw the connector was "electric iron", but with a different flex.

Re: Any ideas on this plug socket?
I used to use one as mains input for the R107 I owned at the time. I think I also provided one to a member here for his R107.
