Who made these cardboard knob slipover instructions?
The photo shows a pair of circular cardboard 'slip-over' instruction notes that would have been slipped onto the control knobs of a radio from new, advising the purchaser what the function of the knobs were. But what manufacturer fitted these? I'm thinking they were probably from an early thirties set when control knobs weren't always identified. I can make guesses as we all can, so I'd welcome answers that have some basis. My own opinion is HMV/Marconi, simply because I seem to recall seeing some in situ once, but I can't be sure. Thanks.

My Ever Ready model H from 1949. I guess a few manufacturers used the cards.

I seem to recall that HMV/Marconi used similar ones on pre-war TV sets.

I have never seen those before, what a simple idea. Beats the socks off the 43 odd bits of paper one gets with modern stuff.

Excellent idea indeed. I guess consumers never RTFM in those days either?!
I like the fact that manuals are often available online these days, allowing a thorough understanding of a product's capabilities before purchase. |

That'll be one sheet for English, two for French and one each for another 40 languages, then

Re: Who made these cardboard knob slipover instructions?
I suspect the reason for not seeing many is that the original owners did follow the instruction "Remove when familiar with use"

I like the "As Selected for the Design Centre" tag on your trannie, John. Most of those would have gone in the bin as soon as the buyer got home, but my Mum left the Design Centre label on her Spong mincer for years.

Sue, I agree sadly the first thing to go are the labels, I have found another original label that came with the set. I did notice another Design Centre tag in another post during the last day or two on this forum.

Re: Who made these cardboard knob slipover instructions?
The Baird Townsman/Countryman television receivers used this method.
I attach a .gif, should you wish to make your own replica. Steve

Is there a list somewhere of appliances selected for the Design Centre?
