Default Telephone 286 not working

I've just acquired a Tele 286 lineman's phone (made by Hosiden), which appears to be lifeless. Despite changing the batteries three times, using new sets of various makes, the phone remains lifeless. The monitor light does not come on when the handset is lifted, and there is no response from any of the other settings. Before this goes back to the seller, is anyone aware of what might be at fault here, or whether there is a common failing that can be easily rectified?

Default Re: Telephone 286 not working

Hi. It could be a fault with the handset plug or cord. The battery feed runs via pins 1 and 6 (which are shorted together in the handset) and the phone will appear dead if there is a fault or its not plugged in. Hope the helps. Regards, Wayne
