If you don't have a proper BT master socket, you can connect a slave / extension socket in the same way, then plug an ADSL filter into the extension socket. Plug your BT phone into the PHONE socket on the ADSL filter. Just like the master socket, the ADSL filter contains the bell capacitor needed for your phone to ring.

My local Poundland branch have been known to stock faceplates with two independent master sockets. May be worth a gander .....
