Default What is this (patented) metal clip..thing?

A new episode of 'What the hell is this?' for your amusement-

It's made of nickel plated brass and bears PAT 270110. The open ends are slightly domed on their outsides (and a similar size to a 3mm wander plug) and the whole thing is quite springy.
I have searched on 270110 but drawn a blank so far.

It looks like a variation on a wander plug that's missing its push on insulating sleeve to cover a wire soldered to the zig zag tag bit.

It's a UK patent. PDF attached. Downloaded from the German Patent Office search web site (search for DEPATISNET), IMHO much more versatile than the EPO or GB ones, and has an English-language interface. The patent only relates to the means for connecting a wire, so doesn't explain what the rest of it is for.

(Thanks all, and ta for moving the thread- I put it in the wrong place)
These items come to light when you're reduced to tidying up- but now I know which box to put it in.
