HMV 1612 Radiogram
In our family we have a large HMV radiogram, the cabinet is perhaps walnut, there are two compartments at the top, one contains a slide out radio and the other a record player (I think this also slides out), underneath there are two further storage cupboards.
Not sure of the exact size maybe 1.5m wide, 1.3m high and 550mm deep. My grandfather worked for EMI and this radiogram, which he purchased in the early 50's, was possibly a second prototype with only a few made. I have looked online and can not find the model anywhere. Does anyone have any idea of the model? |

Re: Which model HMV?
Hello and welcome to the forums.
As with all queries of this type pictures would be useful.

Re: What model?
Good point, but I am in France and the radiogram is in the UK!
Also at present it is slightly difficult to get a photo as it is hidden away in the corner of a room and takes a lot of moving. |

Re: Which model HMV?
The dimensions you quote suggest that it is very large. Therefore I wonder if it might be a HMV 1612. This fits your description in that the radio and record deck are in two compartments at the top, the record player slides out for use. There are two further compartments at the bottom. This was a top of the range model, with motorised tuning and a clock. It had a powerful push/pull KT66 amplifier.
I don't think it would be a prototype, but I can imagine not many were made, I have only seen/heard of a couple of others. Unfortunately I haven't got a reference picture of it that I can post so you can see if you recognise it, (though I have got rear view / chassis photos!). |

Hello Rejecostat
Thank you for your reply. I am trying to get a photo, but have had pc problems! I think the one in our family has 15 valves Superhet? and twin elliptical speakers, does this fit with the 1612? |

Re: Which model HMV?
Hello,
This drawing is from the HMV 1612 Service Manual. It has 15 valves and two 13.5 inch elliptical speakers. Yours, Richard |

HMV 1612 Radiogram
I have downloaded a brochure for the HMV 1612 which gives dimensions, but I would like to know how much one of these radiograms weighs.
Anyone got any idea? |

Hmv 1612
Hi all
I posted on here quite a few years ago and this is a little update. The HMV 1612 that I have belonged to my Mum. Her Dad worked at EMI. As I understand it the HMV 1612 in our family was a prototype. About two years ago I contacted a chap here in France (he's British) who relishes in repairing similar machines. He's been on the case since then, not so easy to find suitable replacement parts, but he's getting there. He's also had to repair the speakers that were not where they should've been. They had been removed at some point and placed in the bottom of the radiograph. Anyway I will take some photos, the radio is out and with the repairer, but some of you might like to see inside the back. |

Re: Hmv 1612
How are you getting on with the HMV/EMI made Autochanger as this could be the most difficult part of the restoration? It's hard enough to find parts for this in the UK, let alone in France.

No idea as I'm not involved in the repairs. I will ask when I get the chance. |

HMV 1612 Radiogram
Good evening everyone
I originally posted in 2010 regarding an HMV 1612 Radiogram that has been in our family since the early 1950s. It is still with me in France and still being repaired. Well maybe not too much going on with it at the moment as the repairer is now unwell. My intention is to get all the bits back from him and at least have it all together again. My question - Is it worth taking it back to the UK to put it on sale? I can't see it be fully repaired, although I know that various parts have been replaced. |
