Defiant radio brand logo
I am currently restoring a radio, managed to ID a similar radio "Raymod F17" but I understand this is the defiant brand - as id by logo, see pic attached.
I can't find much info about defiant radios, and this not - nothing at all. Does anyone have one or info on it? Is the logo really the defiant logo. I cant seem to find that anywhere either. Derek |

Re: defiant radio brand logo
I agree with Lawrence Graves not Defiant.
Defiant was the Co-op brand after BREMA stopped manufacturers supplying Co-op as the "Divi" was seen as a form of discounting. So Co-op started their own brand in Defiance the Chassis are often made by Plessey but there were made by a number of different manufactures. Nice piece on this in the Setmakers and Radioradio. And here https://www.radiomuseum.org/dsp_hers...ompany_id=6381 Cheers Mike T

Re: defiant radio brand logo
Ok graves it is, I got defiant from a dubious source anyway! But the circuit for the Raymond F17 is the right one. it matches one for one on layout and values. And even the picture looks the same.
I still can't find much info on graves either! i'll keep looking On the bright side, after a lot of work, it lives. And is not bad, reasonable sound, good volume, very sensitive as well. so far; a lot of re-wiring (most of the shielded wire has been re-threaded through the old shielding. Valve Grid's top pins re-glued. All three valves (ECH35, EF39, EBC33) had too have the screening fixed - not one was connected to ground! Volume control re-build and plenty of cleaning. New dial cord. New bulbs All paper caps replaced All electrolytes re-stuffed. New main cable. At least two mammoth cleaning sessions. And it's still mucky. re aligned. Speaker had to be rebuilt as well, the centre had gone rusty and the cone did not move! The case and knobs are next... thanks everyone, next time i'll listen to the replies on here first. (defiant just wait till' I see him....) Derek |

Re: Defiant radio brand logo
JG graves was a jewellers in Sheffield. The JG radio is a rebranded Raymond electric f17 which was sold at their store. The radio dial for the JG graves is one of the nicest I've ever come across.
I think you're confusing Defiant with Derwent. Derwent also use the same raymond electric f17 chassis and I believe they shared a factory with Raymond. Attaching a pic of a Derwent and a JG graves which I restored a while back. You can see that they're identical. Also an underchassis picture for reference if you need one.
