I’m intrigued as to what might have been shocking about photograph 5 to cause it to be removed.

Perhaps someone attacking a cat for its whiskers or a grid that was overly biased?

I have never seen this one but I love ancient radio/wireless books. The occasional remarks in one I have been reading recently would send health and safety into a fit of apoplexy.

Nothing sinister it was an unrelated picture that the OP asked to be removed.

Cheers

Hi, I certainly have that one in my collection as well as some other JST books.
I think they fell out of popularity in the later 30's; there was a strong current of opinion that he over complicated his circuits to add a bit of mystique

I never heard that, but, I can certainly agree with the sentiment To all accounts he was a bit of a marmite character, and very into self promotion.

Beyond the 30 minute edit window. Just wanted to add he did some very interesting stuff, and wrote a lot of informative articles and books at the time. His "Manual of Modern Radio" published in 1933 was the first real radio engineering book I got hold of in 1980, as a 12 year old.

It is a piece of history, and dates from the dawn age of broadcasting in the UK. For many people on this forum, this means it has intrinsic value and will happily add it to their collection of early literature, including me, irrespective of rarity or value.

Unfortunately none of this stuff is especially valuable because the target audience is quite small.

Indeed, the last books I acquired from that era cost me £1 each at NVCF.

They provide nostalgic entertainment given some of the practices described and mentions of 2LO, etc.

"The future of wireless will be darkened by greater complexity"

JST on the flyleaf of one book or another. I hope I have quoted it accurately.

I picked this booklet up many years ago that, I assume, once belonged to JST.
