ID challenge
Hi all
Here’s a challenge for you, does anyone recognise this TV? I’m fairly sure it’s a 60s dual standard. These are the only photos I have of it and can get of it as it’s currently in storage. If its of any help what I could see of the chassis (no back) looked very similar to an A640, but I’m fairly confident it isn't an A640. I’m hopefully going to be getting the set soon so can confirm any guesses at a later date. Thanks ‘77 |

Re: ID challenge
I agree it' doesn't look like an A640 which tended to have dark wood cabinets that didn't have a front border. Looks like a 19" set, and Philips or Pye spring to mind - maybe a Style 70 or a 368

Re: ID challenge
I agree with Glynn doesn't look like an A640, the Tube looks like it has a hard plastic protection 'bubble' over the screen or maybe a twin panel tube? So that pre-dates the A640 chassis. Maybe a Baird ? those sets had the plastic bubble protection and the chassis had a resemblance to the A640 in so much as they had two vertical panels with the LOPT middle bottom. Or as Glynn says Philips style 70 or the chassis that was pre style 70 with the panels reversed, no idea what it was called.

Re: ID challenge
I've had a search of both chassis and I think it could very easily be either of them from what I remember, which isn't useful, but having a search around, the controls on some of the Style 70 sets look somewhat similar, so I think you might be right Glynn!
But it's funny you should mention Baird, Slidertogrid, as thats what first came to my mind for some reason. I wish I could've got more photos. The worst bit about it too is theres a list of sets but it seems this is the one and only one that doesn't appear on it! I should hopefully be getting another look in the up and coming weeks so we'll soon find out! Thanks '77 |

Re: ID challenge
I am also in the Phillips or Pye camp, the wood vernier looks very Phillips.

Re: ID challenge
Forerunner of Style 70 is the "Twin-Line" 19TG152 etc.
Philips sets appeared under the Alba brand with a different presentation. Baird, also KB might be possible. |

Re: ID challenge
I'm now no longer sure the Philips Style 70 is a possible candidate, I noticed the metal of the chassis (circled) and from the photos of the Style 70s chassis I dont think they match up in any way, which is a shame as I quite liked the look of the Style 70s
I'll look further into Baird as that's come up a few times too now, I'll let you know how I get on - will also be getting in contact about picking it up again soon so not long to go til we find out! Thanks '77 |
