Sony HMK-40 music. Speakers?
Just claimed a Sony HMK-40 music centre which has been abandoned in a garage for many years. Needs a fair bit of work!! There are no speakers. Can anyone tell me which speakers I should use? You may have realised I am a complete novice. Thanks.

Re: Sony HMK-40 music. Speakers?
Any 8 ohm HiFi speakers will be fine. The best fit would be something from the same era, the late 70s. Look for anything vintage by Goodmans or Wharfedale - these will sound significantly better than the original Sony speakers.
You should be aware that this unit may need a significant amount of work, especially if it's been stored in poor conditions. As a minimum, all the belts will need changing, and the record deck will need dismantling, cleaning and relubing. |

In the meantime you can check it out if you have a pair of headphones - most likely the headphone socket will be a 6.3mm stereo jack plug - if your phones are more recent they may have a 3.5mm or even 2.5mm plug on the end, though adaptors are available.
