Default Pioneer PN-3MC cartridge

Hi all.
Is it possible to re-tip the above stylus? as a replacement is very pricey.
Does any one do it?
Cheers.
Gaz.

Hi Gaz,
I have used a vey good company for over 20 years now for all my 78 work and recently for my ortofon om range of LP work. Whyndham Hodgson is the proprietor and a very knowledgeable person he is about those tiny lumps of polished diamond which make a difference to the sound! Their address is:

Expert Stylus Company
Omega house
50 Harriotts Lane
Ashtead
Surrey
KT21 2QB
United Kingdom. Tel: +44 (0) 1372 276604

If you are after a good stylus, try his own design called the Paratrace, it does what it says.

email for a quote and if the cantilver is ok I hope you might be pleasently surprised.
Remember, never throw away a cantilever if it has only lost its stylus point, they are still very useful. Email: info@expertstylus.co.uk

I have no connection with the company save being a very satisfied customer.

Sorry Gaz,

I did not read the important bit (MC). In that case he is probably someone who will be definitely qualified to give you the lowdon on the state of the cartridge and what is best to do as, of course, the cantilever is the cartridge.

Hi.
Sorry, my post might be a bit miss-leading.
The tiny metal shaft (think that's the cantilever) with the diamond set into it has snapped, wondered if that can be replaced?
Looking at the stylus side of the cartridge, how on earth has someone made coils that tiny with wires I could only see using my magnifying glass?
Gaz.

On a moving coil cartridge, that's probably the end of the road. The re-tipping firms need a cantilever in place and undamaged.

Still worth going to Expert for a definitive opinion. Whether it is then worth the cost is of course your call, but it costs little to find out.

Expert stylus quoted £132.00 if they could fix it.
Cheaper buying new old stock.
