Radio Beacon?
The Yesterday Channel [26] at 8pm today has Abandoned Engineering S7 Ep 4 [which seems to be new]. It includes a "Beacon" which transmitted "one of the most infamous messages of WW2". I can't find more info or bring to mind what this can be be-so far? I'm assuming it is radio related so I mention it as a "heads up" but no guarantees!

Re: Radio Beacon?
A glance at EPG listings mentions "American beacon" and "long distance", so maybe something to do with Hawaii-US mainland? Not long to find out anyway.
Ernest Gann, in his classic aviation autoboigraphy Fate is the Hunter, mentions a stretch delivering shiny new Lockheed airliners to Latin American customers when the teleprinter at a quiet airfield abruptly clattered into life with a string of Pearl Harbour newsflahes. Everyone around them markedly became very cold and unsmiling, there was a strong German cultural connection throughout South America. |
