The support steel work looks fresh, shadows show even more in the sunlight, acid spills under the table ? only one wire(s) passing through to other side of roof(?) and light for photo must have had three locations to give so clear an image, so staged yes. Still love to know what the massive thing above the operator is. Cliff.

I'd go for an early PA system. The wires from the box with the valves in are a twisted pair and a single core,maybe coax for mic input. These are then strung on a catenary wire to outside the photo. The box at the from right with twisted pair wires around it could be the microphone amplifier. Lid down so it's screened?.
Temporary setup so run of batteries, with a spare set.

Bit early for coax? Other photo on "Shorpy" shows aircraft with retractable trailing aerial system. C.
