Mystery TV in Abandoned Devon Rectory
Hi all.
Just as a bit of fun, can anyone identify the TV in slide "4" of the web page below? http://www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/34277343 It looks a bit Ekco-y to me although I couldn't identify it. Thanks all. Kind regards. From Mike.

Re: Mystery TV in Abandoned Devon Rectory
Hi Mike,
I'd guess that's an Ekco all right. TC209? Came in two versions, the early one had the split heater chains, 0.1 and 0.2 amps and the later set /1 with the more conventional 0.3amp series of valves. Actually there was a Rediffusion set that looked a bit similar, in fact they used Ekco front control knobs. Model CA173A? DFWB. |

Re: Mystery TV in Abandoned Devon Rectory
That could well be the model. A TC267. Evidently, the TC209 is similar except that the loudspeaker aperture is larger and the pre-set controls are positioned on the front. They are on the left side in the TC267.

Just thinking the same, Richard!
It would take "a few" weekends of DIY to get it looking nice though, I suspect. N. |

Re: Mystery TV in Abandoned Devon Rectory
It would take some serious work, but basically looks intact and dry, move in straight away and start work, loads of character and original fittings etc, same as the TV (half hearted attempt to say on topic )

Re: Mystery TV in Abandoned Devon Rectory
Just think of all the radios/TVs which could be kept in that amount of space! It's quite wasted with only one.
Shades of the old, 'Guess how many sweeties are in this jar and win a prize'. How many tellies would fit in this house? David

Re: Mystery TV in Abandoned Devon Rectory
I imagine it will be bought by a developer and divided into flats.
Back on topic now please. |

Re: Mystery TV in Abandoned Devon Rectory
The set looks the same as my TC208, only in better condition!
I wonder what other treasures are lurking in that house? Mark |

Re: Mystery TV in Abandoned Devon Rectory
It's got to be worth one of us (whose got room for it, which rules me out at the moment), approaching the agent to see if the TV can be sold or even given away, after all, it would cost a business, such as a developer, about £15 to dispose of it legally as WEEE. Many, if not most, people still do not realise that there is any interest in old black and white TV's.

Re: Mystery TV in Abandoned Devon Rectory
An Ekco TC267 was among those TVs I picked up from Central Wales last October. Top right side of the picture.

Re: Mystery TV in Abandoned Devon Rectory
This house would not look good filled with all the rubbish we collect. There may well be a clause in the deeds to forbid the purchase to any nutty collectors..
I wonder if the Ekco was purchased new by the house owner. Incredible! J. |

Re: Mystery TV in Abandoned Devon Rectory
It sounds as if it may have been purchased new by the house owner. A real piece of history.

Re: Mystery TV in Abandoned Devon Rectory
Another real piece of history exists here, an Ekco console TV with gram deck and FM that was owned by the lady who started a top stock exchange listed company years ago called Polly Peck. For those old enough to remember that name.
Bought off her nephew by myself and I really must get it fired up. Superb damped action lid to access the gram deck.

Re: Mystery TV in Abandoned Devon Rectory
I think David ought to move in to that house - He'd have plenty of room for all his pre-war TVs and wouldn't have to build any more sheds.

Re: Mystery TV in Abandoned Devon Rectory
I think it was fairly brave of them to switch the lights on to take that photograph(!) I suspect some rewiring may be needed there...

Re: Mystery TV in Abandoned Devon Rectory
The mystery TV has been identified.
If a forum member buys the house, no doubt they'll post in the Member Introductions and News section.
