Back in the days when I serviced a lot of VCRs I found that certain machines that were placed below the tv's often picked up radiation from the line timebase.
Toshiba betamax were one of the worst . Those vcr's that had metal covers were ok. But some with plastic covers were a problem. The same as some tv's caused more problems than others.
