PTR175 Rotary PSU
Folks, I've just been given a 27.5V/485V Plessey PSU out of a PTR175(Airborne VHF/UHF Tx/Rx). Many thanks to GM8AGM(Martin). I'm really exited as I'm hoping that it will power up my old Coastal Radio Curlew HF Tx/Rx.
I'm thinking that its the same PSU as in the ARC52. Despite,45 years ago) being sent on a 3 week ARC52 specialist course at RAF Feltwell, my mind is a complete blank now. So I'm desperate for a circuit diagram & any advice, please. There are a multitude of connections to P1101 & P1102. Oh yes, and the big choke L1102 is missing. Regards, David |

Re: PTR175 Rotary PSU
Thanks Graham for the link.
As a visitor, then joined the Wireless-Set19 Yahoo Group. I was still unable to download the AP file. A wee "Windows Explorer" message box kept coming up saying that the file site (Royal Signals) couldn't meet my request! Regards, David |

Re: PTR175 Rotary PSU
ISTR they're a bit fussy about webmail like Yahoo or Gmail etc. That could be your problem.

Re: PTR175 Rotary PSU
It's a 70MB document of 501 pages. I'll see if I can find the pages you want.

Re: PTR175 Rotary PSU
Many thanks Graham,
The details of the whole PSU are :-Part No 542 1370 005, Cat No 5821 99 942 8547. The Rot/T on top:- Ref No 6126-99-943-2030, S/No 5822. Right enough, I certainly don't need 500 pages of bumph, just a wee handful to cover the PSU Circuit Diagram, Pin connections for P1101 and P1102 and the missing choke L1102. My Sailor 1000 Series massive Battery Charger will easily give 27.5V DC, and the two 12V tractor batteries in series which it keeps charged will easily give 26V. The whole caboodle is the only supply source I use for the old ex marine HF sets I renovate and use. So this lovely compact ex PTR175 PSU will be just the ticket. Regards, David |

Re: PTR175 Rotary PSU
Many thanks to Graham for his help, most appreciated.
The "Coastal Radio" thread will keep folk up to date on my progress when I mate this PSU to the Curlew Tx/Rx. As the CR Nimbus Tx project is nearing completion, its smaller sibling - the Curlew - will be my next hybrid mating with a PSU. Regards, David |
