Default Marconi T32A

I have above radio works really well. But with an earth plugged in the aerial side why is this. It doesn't seem as any one has changed things round or done anything there at all. Very strange

An Earth wire connected to the antenna socket will function as an antenna, the other side of the circuit is the capacitance between the chassis and Neutral and ultimately Earth via the mains transformer and any stray capacitance.
