Re: What do you listen to on AM?
It's the odd unexpected surprises while tuning around that make it still worthwhile for me- late this afternoon, an hour of David Bowie tracks from NHK on 6000kHz (presumably a local relay!), signal so strong and clear that selectivity could be set to full broad (AR88D) and 6V6GT made to move some air.

Regularly listen to Radio Caroline on 648kHz MW, also Absolute radio; RTL (Luxembourg) on 234kHz LW, occasionally R4 LW 198kHz.

Re: What do you listen to on AM?
Hello,
Radio Caroline on 648kc/s... Get a cracking reception here. It's shame it doesn't align with the Caroline station marker on some of my old transistor radios. Terry. |

Re: What do you listen to on AM?
I put a Schaffner mains filter in the mains feed to my Philips Music Maid clock radio and it has removed most of the interference which had previously made it unusable on LW.

Re: What do you listen to on AM?
I am listening to more and more on MW!
I like Radio 5 Live in the morning for breakfast, and Smooth Radio on 1251KHz for a lot of other listening, including at bed time on my 80s MW clock radio. Radio Caroline also gets a look in, particularly at weekends. I also sometimes enjoy Lyca radio on 1458Khz, but can only get that on some evenings. With the right radio, MW still sounds great. And a 2022 bonus for me. I have previously reported that Smooth on 1251 has a hum on it, which I believe was caused by an industrial building nearby. Well, they have recently replaced an air handler unit and the hum is gone! |

Re: What do you listen to on AM?
Upon occasion in the summer I like to pick up the low power special stations. And then go for a motorcycle ride looking for the antenna (that is why summer). I have yet to find the antenna at Royal Holloway University, don't suppose I will, MW has stopped, still FM though.

Caroline 648, nothing else worth listening to in UK.

Re: What do you listen to on AM?
In fairness that is very much a personal view not a fact. As this thread shows there's lots to listen to if your tastes are more than popular music. Radio 4 alone covers a vast range of interests and subjects. Local stations provide, yes, local information and there's sports stations too.
