Radio ID required
Hi. Can anyone ID this radio for me. Maybe someone is familiar with the look of it, the dial might give it away. Thank you. Rich

It appears to have Stagshaw on the dial so it may be prewar.
A rear view of the chassis would be helpful. |

I agree, probably late 30s by the tuning scale, though it may be immediately postwar. What are the valves?

I attach a picture of the top of the chassis and a date found on the speaker. Cannot make it out though. And speaker is not absolutely known to be the original. Valve line-up (markings on valves) : 6K8G (Brimar), 6K7G (Brimar), 6Q7G (Brimar), 6F6G "Amerty Mullard", 5Z4G / CV1863 (Gov. mark) and the magic eye 6U5 (Tungstram) Not sure if the valve line up says something. EDIT: I include it's original setting. Is this a "console" set?

The smoothing can has been replaced with a radio-spares one. I attach a shot of the underneath. In the LW section of the dial I see "Aircraft".

Well it is a console set.
Otherwise it's hiding its identity quite well! The 6F6G isn't a common valve in UK models, the 6V6G was far more popular and used less heater current. The 6k8g 6k7g 6q7g 6v6g 5z4g lineup was used quite widely, but none listed in Radiomuseum match your chassis. Maybe it's an obscure "Department Store" set?

Trawler band is a fairly unusual feature, otherwise it looks typical of 1938-45 (not much development of domestic sets during WWII, and more than a few post-war models were released with pre-war station names) department store or rental sets.

It looks rather like an Armstrong chassis, albeit a basic model, from about 1938.

The capacitors in the dull metal cans look very much to me to be Sprague ones of US manufacture - many of these were on the surplus market in the immediate post WWII period and were used extensively in radios made up until the early 1950 s.
It doesn't have enough valves to be a Barker 88, my guess is that it is something made up by one of the many post WWII small businesses that sprung up back then.

I would also go Armstrong, look at the position of the rear valve WRT the IFT's in the ones in the links below and compare to the OP's photo, definitely a family relationship there:
