Hitachi SP2900 8 Track
Hi all
Can anyone help with the type of bulb In this unit. The bulbs are wired to the end of the supply cable in the radio display and both VU meters. They are all blown and require replacement. The unit also requires belts and motor mount replacement. But the bulbs I can't seem to find online, so looking for something I can purchase easily and solder in as a replacement. Many thanks |

Re: Hitachi SP2900 8 Track
Looking at the service manual all the bulbs are probably 12v operation, I would suggest a current rating of 50/60mA. There are no specifications given re the bulbs but you could use the small pea bulbs that have short wires attached, if you can track some down. Otherwise use some white LED's but remember the series resistors if the LED's are not rated at 12v.

Sometimes these bulbs are called rice grain bulbs.

I have always known them as Grain of Wheat lamps some examples here:

Re: Hitachi SP2900 8 Track
Also used for dolls house lights, although I suspect LEDs may have taken over. The last grain of wheat wire-ended bulbs I got as dolls house accessories a few years ago were nominally 12V, but had short lives on 12V and soon went black, so I derated them to 9V.
