I'm very grateful to Richard [trhO1uk] for the books he offered. They've been on a longer journey than anticipated but Richard has been very generous in the true spirit of the Forum, possibly it's main attraction in my view and I try to follow it myself.

 Looks like an SN7446AN BCD-7-segment decoder/driver IC will be needed - so now it's over the 'FS/W' section ...  Best wishes Guy
