Default Beta-blockers.

Don't worry mods, this is not an off-topic post about cardiology!

It's about this feature on a VHS deck

Youtuber "Technology Connections" discusses it here in terms of blocking the insertion of Betamax cassettes

(The link skips the considerable preamble (woffle)).

I suppose it could be argued it's equally about stopping a back-to-front or upside-down VHS cassette from attempting to load, but that didn't stop the infamous Philips Charley deck from having a good go at it.

I once tried inserting a V2000 tape on my Panasonic G-deck VCR. Long story short, I had to disassemble the front loading mechanism in order to remove the stuck tape because of that peg on the cassette carriage, like the one you see in the picture. Not a very fun process at all.

Lots of cleaning tapes and VHS-C adaptors found that pip irresistible!
