Default Philips N2506 cassette deck

Hi guys

Where can I get a replacement record/playback head and pinch roller?I have been restoring this machine and have replaced belts and lightly lubed the mech and it runs quite sweetly however the treble response is very poor and even adjusting the azimuth has very little effect.

Thanks
Dave

I've had three of the bigger brother of this (with inbuilt stereo amp) over the years, and they all sounded dull. I think it's just the limitations of the unit.

Thanks Ben.

I'll tune the azimuth to the best output.

Wouldn't fitting a better quality head, if you can get one to fit, improve the sound?

That being a pretty big "if", though. It has to fit electrically as well as mechanically. For instance, and simplifying a lot, if the replacement head has more turns than the original, it will have a higher inductance, which will require more voltage drive at high frequencies; and it will pick up a stronger signal from the same recording than the original.

You might get away with it if you were only planning to use it for playback though, I suppose.

Most of these decks come with presets though so you could adjust them to compensate for it. And who uses cassette machines for recording these day?
