A 'Statesman' mystery?
I was going through my stock of 'Statesman' style telephones sorting them out into 'Earth Recall' and 'Timed Break Recall' (or 'Register Recall' as TBR is sometimes referred to by BT). All DTMF models.
One of the phones (not a BT one) is made by Philips TMC in 1990 going by the markings on it. However it has two sets of 'links' inside whose purpose I don't know marked PLC and PLF. Bob Freshwater's site has little about Philips/TMC telephones. Plus not a lot about the BT Stateman other than he mentions that the BT Telephone No 9101AR (last photo) has a link (labelled PLD on the PCB) for converting it between ER & TBR. There is no PLD on the board in this particular 'Statesman' but its location is 'screen-printed' on the PCB. The PCB itself seems to be common to both phones but with different components fitted. I've checked the PCB in the 'ER' only model and that has a completely different board with no links or mention of them. I can remember back in the early 1990's Philips , produced a 'Statesman' style phone known as a K1 which was 'Timed Break Recall' and was fitted with a bell - a 'Bell No 84A' same as fitted to some versions of BT 'Tremelo' telephone but BT don't seem to have had a 'bell' version of the Statesman. Does anyone know about this non-BT version of the 'Statesman' such as what do the links PLD and PLF do? |

Re: A 'Statesman' mystery?
PLF is next to the ringer IC, any chance it affects that, somehow? Maybe volume, or pitch? you could always try it! The other one looks like it's next to the recall button, is it maybe ER selection or the duration of the TBR pulse?

Quote:
The TBR tests were done on a Panasonic KXTEA308 - no effect but when tried with a Statesman 9101AR set up for TBR, it accepted the 'recall'. A mystery? This Philips phone is OK for just a 'DTMF' phone without a recall facility. Just have to hope someone eventually comes out of the 'woodwork' with the info. |
