Some of the receivers look like HROs. A coilpack change is commented on.

I wonder why the manual transcription stage was required before conversion to punched tape?

Maybe part of an audit trail? Some telegrams would have carried information which could be expensive if it was mistranscribed. In those circumstances there would likely be legal implications.....

HROs certainly, but what was that receiver the lanky bloke was using before the cut to the aviation service?

Oh, that was a DeHaviland Dragon Rapide unless I'm mistaken.
