Default Re: Bush AC34 restoration - quiet audio, help, please.

The easiest way to start if you have no specialised equipment (like me) is to try and play some kind of sound (using a cheap bluetooth receiver for example, or phone or iPod etc) and going in at the volume control. All you need is a stereo cable and some crocodile clips. If the set is still quiet, the problem most likely lies with the output phase.

I’ve just put my AC34 on the bench and carried out some basic observations, I restored this set last year.
1. Touching the PU socket with volume control full up getting a good buzz.
2. With the set near my workshop window, using only the frame aerial, I can receive stations on both LW and MW with more than enough volume to comfortably listen too.
The problem I had with the set was the second IF capacitor had a broken connection, which I repaired.
I then carried out alignment and this made a huge difference.
Hope that helps.

That's great John, thanks for that, will try this, not sure about alignment yet, but will look into it.

Just to be clear I carried out IF alignment, after repair.
