KB Princess RV 20
So here are some inside pics of the KB I picked up from Somerset thanks to Mikey for the tip off.
It’s missing 4 valves but has a nice layer of dust and the mains dropper is very clean so I am hopeful. This is a one owner TV as was the Cossor that came with it which I will start a separate thread. The lady who had them to dispose of was the Daughter of the original owner and remembers watching them when she was 5-6years old. Wish me luck. C

Re: KB Princess RV 20
Those missing valves are very strange. Not what you'd expect from the very original looking set in the pictures previously shown, also those missing knobs on the other set. They've been removed a very long time ago judging by the dust and may possibly have been swapped over into the other set by the original owner to try to get that one working after a breakdown. By the double top cap connector that's hanging there, I'm guessing that they're the line output and boost diode valves that are missing? At least the mains dropper hasn't been turned down on the voltage selector.

Re: KB Princess RV 20
It could but why remove the PCL82 field output valve? The EHT rectifier top cap looks untouched and it's the first port of call for internal shorts etc when checking a line output fault.
It might have been laid down due to a low tube but they usually take a reactivation with good results. Interlace is bad on these models due to a scan coil design fault but not all of them! Good luck with it! John. |

Re: KB Princess RV 20
Was this the model that KB suggested slightly adjusting position of the line and frame coils in some way?

Re: KB Princess RV 20
Yes Frank, Most customers never noticed the lack of interlace and it was VERY noticeable!
You could fiddle the scan coils to reduce interaction but KB supplied replacement modified coils at a very reasonable price. The short neck Brimar tube can be replaced by a Mullard AW43-89 direct or a MW43-88 if you want to stand off the rear bowler hat a small amount. Like wise if you can find a good one, the Mazda CME1703 standard neck or CME1705 short neck would be suitable. John. |

Good luck! Nice to know that after all these years you are only the second owner!

Re: KB Princess RV 20
It could be that the chap that owned it had a small amount of knowledge and perhaps removed the two line TB valves to try to test them or find replacements which never happened. He may have thought there was a fault with the line tranny or valves when it could have been a very leaky boost cap or the capacitor coupling to the grid of the PL81, but we're just guessing, although worth replacing both of them first.
It's summer and very warm at the moment, so you may get away with not warming the line o/p tranny with some current before powering up, depending on whether you know if it's been stored in a warm house all its life or in a damp old shed or loft - the condition of the set looks promising, so possibly dry storage. |

Re: KB Princess RV 20
They were both stored in the attic since retirement. not a spot of rust anywhere on either.
