MiniMod and FM Tuner as a combined unit
I thought there might be some interest in the way I used my MiniMod so I have included a couple of photos. The basis of the idea was to incorporate the MiniMod together with an FM tuner in a case as a combined unit. The audio output from the tuner does not directly feed the MiniMod but is available as an external audio jack, similarly the audio input to the Minimod is also externally available on a jack socket. For using the two units together a short audio jack lead connects them externally as seen in a photo. This arrangement gives extra flexibility as headphones can be plugged into the tuner jack and it becomes an FM radio alternatively the MiniMod can be fed from any suitable external source. At the moment power is supplied from an external source to a standard 5.5mm connector on the side of the case not visible in the photo.
The FM tuner came from Banggood and is a Geekcreit® DSP & PLL Digital Stereo FM Radio Receiver Module (less than £10)

Re: MiniMod and FM Tuner as a combined unit
Japanese FM tuners seem to be very cheap on the secondhand market nowadays, and they have a lot of air inside them. It would be possible to add a pantry transmitter inside one and steal a bit of power.

Re: MiniMod and FM Tuner as a combined unit
In case anyone is tempted to use the Banggood tuner I employed there are a couple of things to note. Firstly it requires a 5V supply, this I achieved by grafting a 78L05 regulator plus two capacitors onto the tuner PCB. Secondly the volume control is a digital one and the first click is about right and the second click is erring on overmodulation so I attenuated the audio level to the LM386 by increasing the value of R4 and R5.
