TMS1100NLC - MP5031A FAS Microcontroller IC - Anyone know what it was used in?
I recently found several of these - full-size DIL28 package (probably socketed 'pulls', as no solder on pins, and maybe from old computer terminals?), in some (ex-Computers etc.) IC's bags I'd bought from radio rallies years ago.
And I wondered if anyone had come across these particular 'MP5031A FAS' version ones in any equipment, to see what they might be used for? I tried some Googling, but I can't find any references to the specific 'MP5031A' code in the 2K x 8bit ROM inside these TMS1100NLC 4-bit MCU's (Similar to the infamous TMS1000 4-bit ones that were once the World's most commonly-used MCU inside many electronic toys etc. - often in a smaller-pitch shrink-DIP package). I did wonder if the 'FAS' after the MP5031A might relate to the manufacturer of the equipment they were for (It's not where they were made, as 'Philippines' is on the 3rd row).. They are date coded '8349', after the 'FAS', so are from late 1983. Being only ever ROM-based, I don't think there's an easy way to readout the Internal ROM, to disassemble its code. TIA, Owen |

Might be worth an enquiry to Texas Instruments who appear to be the manufacturer of the chip. If you're lucky they might let you know who the chips were originally made for. The actual use could be anything from computers to brown goods, such as ctv's, it all depends on the internal program, which may or may not be readable from an eprom, eeprom, pic writer device.
