Finally got round to posting images . Here are some images of the 3 db attenuator build .
Going by the SWR meter it indeed does show a 50% drop in o/p power so the pencil lead does work. QRP only though but i did take it up to 20W I/P. Cheap 0.8mm ali from a double glazing builders workshop as an off cut for the case.

Nice. Well done.

Just don't ever use complete pencils though if it's going to get hot. I did once, in my misbegotten youth. My two-pencil 'arc lamp' caught fire and singed the living room carpet. My dad wasn't best pleased.

Well it was born out desperation and what i could press into service based on past knowledge, and some basic metal bashing skills.
