What I'd like to see is a link at the top "Replies To Your Posts". I'm sure it would be everyone's starting point, before New Posts

That may or may not be a good idea, but the forum software doesn't have that option.

I normally find that 'User CP' just about does that, anything you have posted in normally shows up there when new replies have arrived, but it only works if you subscribe to the threads in the first place, normally automatic, but I guess you can probably switch it off somewhere!

Lloyd

Julian, you can choose to "subscribe" to any thread and you will get an email alert when there is any activity.
These are particularly useful items for sale, and wanted posts.

I agree that would be useful but it is not available in the software we use.

Subscribing to threads will achieve a similar thing, and when you go to User CP it shows all the thread you are subscribed to that have new activity. There is also an option in Edit Options to automatically subscribe to every thread you create or reply to, with or without email notifications.

Using subscribed threads with automatic subscription enabled (probably with no emails) and clicking User CP when you come back here should achieve what you want. It also has the advantage that if you are no longer interested in a thread you replied to a while ago you can unsubscribe, and you can also subscribe to threads that interest you but that you haven't posted in yet.

It's a pity there's no way, as far as I know, of not seeing posts that you have no interest in. 🙂

That would require psychic software - I don't think AI researchers have cracked that one yet.

You only see the "headline" not posts on the "home" screen.

If there are particular members whose posts you don't like you can add them to your "ignore list" via the control panel.

Really, I'll have a play with that. Thanks.

😄😄😄 I didn't mean that. I mean , stop seeing the title re-apear every time someone makes a new post in a thread one has no interest in, having initially read the OP. Aub

Just had a look. There is no member I'd want to ignore, only certain topics/ technologies, e.g. threads about old computers. No offence intended to anyone who likes old computers.

Cheers

None taken, Aub.

By the way, might I suggest you go E.V.A. and take a look at the AE35 unit ... ?

I'm afraid I don't know what E.V.A is, or an AE35 but I do know the HAL9000 series. I used to mend them back in 2001 😉

Cheers

( I'll go and take a stress pill 😄 )

Extra-Vehicular Activity ... and the AE35 was the antenna unit that was reported by Hal as '... going 100% failure in the next 48 hours'

As I'm a Dave, I'm quite concerned about AE3-5 units.

You can use Google search to find unfindable old posts by yourself, just search for Julesomega HMV etc

I really enjoyed that (and the subsequent exchange) - well played!

But I don't think the filter which will exclude posts we don't like, needs to be psychic - merely acausal, having an impulse response which starts before t=0. When I worked in acoustics I sometimes needed to turn a desired (complex) response in frequency into an FIR time-domain approximation, and I got to be quite a dab-hand at designing acausal filters If you like, I'll look into it for you!
