Default 47 markings on WW 2 capacitors

I recollect a thread on this subject being discussed some time ago but I have been unable to find it so hopefully somebody can help.

Numerous WW 2 components, particularly RAF, have in addition to their values or stores numbers the number 47 included.

The pictures below show two examples, a waxed paper and a pear drop capacitor (far left on the pear drop).

Numerous possibilities spring to mind, approval level or specific manufacturer.
Hopefully somebody knows the answer.

Chris

Just a guess - maybe a date code?

ā€˜47ā€™ = 1947, ā€˜Eā€™ = May. (Letter E being 5th in alphabet, so = fifth month).

I don't believe it is a date code, or we would see other numbers just as often, which we don't see marked in this way.

Might be a supplier code?

TCC was a big supplier then, so if seen on different parts that might be a possible answer

Thanks for that Lawrence TCC sounds reasonable although I have never associated them with the "pear drop" shown in the picture above.

That particular capacitor does not fit in with the normal range as it has a length of 18-20mm and diameter of around 16mm.
Unfortunately the RAF stores number is partially obliterated 10C/3xx3.
