Default Direct Drive Turntable

I'm on the look out for a decent direct drive turntable. It's for a work colleague who'd like to play her late husband's LP's.

To save her wasting money on some new plastic rubbish, I thought I'd ask here if anybody had anything decent for sale, and not too far from me?

I had in mind something late 70s to mid 80s, preferably direct drive, Japanese made, Technics, Pioneer etc. Something of that ilk. Doesn't strictly need to be direct drive

If you have something that fits, or can at least suggest good value models to look out for that would be great.

Thanks
Adam

Unless she has an amplifier (with phono input) and speakers, a deck may not be ideal.

Similarly, if she is not in the habit of using vinyl, an automatic or semi auto unit might be a better choice than a manual.

There was a superb 1970s Sanyo music centre offered here the other day. While not up to the performance of the average direct drive deck, something like that would blow anything from today out of the water and is easy to use.

Thanks Ben, but in this case she does have a fairly decent Hifi amp with a phono input

I have a Technics of the right vintage, I will look it out and see what model it is.

Bognor is not too far away from Fleet.

That would be lovely Peter, thank you. And yes Bognor isnt too far, I actually have some family near Bognor so it might be an excuse to pay them a visit.

Thanks
