Default Paint for that "Leak" Look

Which (spray) paint can anyone recommend to get a non-Leak chassis looking a bit like a Leak. I need to respray anyway, and would like to emulate that lovely soft gold hammerite look. Any ideas?

It's that easy? I can get that locally, I think. Is it finished with a lacquer coat or left bare?

Hammerite is 'orrible stuff - the hammered finish is just too rough to emulate the finish of early Leak equipment.

TBH, I would just use a normal car aerosol in a close colour, and lacquer it after.

The finish on Hammerite depends almost entirely on how it's applied. Light coats of the aerosol variety can produce a smooth, finely mottled result similar to Leak's paint, and quite unlike heavy brushed coats.
I suspect that the original finish was indeed Hammerite (as, I believe, was Garrard's 'polychromatic' finish), as I think Finnigan's, who used to make it, had a patent on the process until relatively recently.

I have just done a Hammerite Gold finish using their aerosol and it is certainly smooth, not rough. I did it in 4 light coats. It looks lovely to my untutored eye. Quite tricky to avoid runs on vertical surfaces. But the gold colour is a bit bright compared to the Leak finish. I wonder if theirs had a bit more bronze in it.
However, this amp is just an orphan, so is quite pleased to have such a smart new paint job anyway!

I recently restored a Stereo 20 and had to fit a new silver capacitor (above deck) in place of the original gold one. I found that Nissan (or Datsun) Antique Gold Metallic (Holts) spray was almost indistiguishable from the original, I only sprayed the capacitor can and it blended in well enough to just look 'new'.
