Default TRF radios

Do TRF radios have any virtues today?
I have seen a Champion TRF on fleabay a good while ago, which looked to be 1950s vintage. Why would any company produce this design? Was the reason cheapness?
I don't know anything of the Champion. It looked like a table radio, but I don't think it was regenerative.
