Default Radio Caroline Flashback on 576kHz?

I'm receiving Radio Caroline Flashback on 576kHz. It's an extremely strong signal in the Ipswich area and I've roughly DF'ed it as being on a line running slightly West of North through my location.

Is anyone else receiving it? I expect it's a land based pirate relaying the internet stream.

Just tried it on the car radio sat in the middle of Lincoln, and I am also receiving it! Very noisy though.

Just tried it here in Rayleigh, Essex using a Sony ICF-7600DS and I’m getting a fairly low flashback signal on 576KHz. It appears to be in a roughly north easterly direction, roughly in the direction of their community FM transmitter sited north of Burnham on Crouch…?? Could be wrong though.

From memory 576KHz could be an old Caroline frequency?

From here in Rayleigh, is doesn't appear to be coming from Orford Ness, however really close though.

The transmissions could possibly originate from Stonham Aspel, Suffolk, a location previously used for 648kHz transmissions before the move to Orfordness when a community licence was granted.

That makes sense.

Ah, I'd forgotten about that site, which makes sense as It's North East of here, but slightly less East than the Orford Ness site which ties up with my very, very rough direction finding.

From memory the transmitter used at Orford Ness was new to Caroline and the aerial was already there from Aunty BBC, so the site at Stonham Aspel would still be complete and operational?

Made contact with someone in the know this afternoon and I have it on good authority it's NOT a legitimate Caroline transmission and is a pirate rebroadcast originating in that area. This concurs with post #1 in the link mickm3for posted.

As this appears to be an unlicensed broadcast it's time to wrap this one up.

Cheers
